Under the shade of pine and cypress trees in the First Cemetery of Athens, opened in 1837, are buried some of the most prominent Greek politicians, writers, and artists. Its varied collection of mausoleums includes key examples of neoclassical sculpture, including the tomb of Heinrich Schliemann, designed by Ernst Ziller, and the famous sculpture I Koimomeni (The Sleeping Girl) by Yannoulis Chalepas. It is also one of the sites of Pope.L’s Whispering Campaign.
