In a village in Hungary in 1882, a young maid is found dead in the river. The local rabbi is accused of ritual murder, and put on trial. The ensuing blood libel became a confrontation between anti-Semitic and liberal forces, recreated in this astonishing film. Shot on a handheld camera, using local actors, Version tells a story lodged deep in the collective unconscious of Hungarian Jews.
