Based on a True Story is a cycle of works that seeks to generate scores from historical occurrences and processes that have had a significant impact on recent social history. Chapter IX employs recordings from specific events between 1975 and 1977 from several different angles. The sound “documents” are used to inform synthetic signals that convey—in an idealized manner—the sonic attributes of various idioms of radio broadcasting. The result reflects real events not by means of sonic documents but instead by mimicking their representation through modes of broadcasting, representing them in a hyperreal way. This is done under the assumption that this is as valid a “document” as any.
