A-Letheia project sketch by Anton Kats

On June 2 you are invited to join a collaborative musical performance by two brass bands from Germany and Greece. The event includes a walk between two kiosks in Athens which the public can join at each of the venues or along the route. The members of Blech & Schwefel Brass Band, based in Kassel, Germany, have been playing together for 28 years. Composed of 18 musicians, they regularly perform in Kassel and often collaborate with other European bands and orchestras. In Athens the band will join the brass and percussion group Dirty Athens Brass Band for a process-based musical encounter titled a Brass Walk. Dirty Athens Brass Band is a young ensemble that began in 2014. The seven musicians blend their passion for performing and music, playing in public spaces, as well as at many festivals and public events in Athens.

Brass Walk is a 3 km journey between two distinct neighborhoods in Athens: Psyrri and Kypseli. Playing along the way and performing, the two bands come together in a large ensemble for the first time, entering into a dialog with each other and the city while populating it with sound. This event is the first of two encounters between the bands, the second to take place in Kassel in August.

Kiosk Psyrri: Iroon Square, Ag. Anargiron and Karaiskaki, Psyrri
Kiosk Kypseli: Fokionos Negri and Eptanisou, Kypseli

The event is part of the gradual unfolding of the A-Letheia project as conceived by artist Anton Kats, taking place over the 100 days of documenta 14 in Athens. The project involves collaborative events with local groups, neighbors, and members of the community surrounding the kiosks.
