In a village in Hungary in 1882, a young maid is found dead in the river. The local rabbi is accused of ritual murder, and put on trial. The ensuing blood libel became a confrontation between anti-Semitic and liberal forces, recreated in this astonishing film. Shot on a handheld camera, using local actors, Version tells a story lodged deep in the collective unconscious of Hungarian Jews.


Keimena, a documenta 14 Film Program on ERT2, airs Mondays at midnight from December 19, 2016 to September 18, 2017. Each film can be viewed during the broadcast and streamed on demand for seven days thereafter.
